If anyone assumed that the 2019 Volvo XC40 could be a somewhat smaller clone of the elder sister XC60, it has wrong predictions. The new compact Suv of the Swedish Company presented to the international press at the Volvo Studio Milano, Showcase in the heart of the most fashionable area of the city, has a very precise personality. It’s very sporty and gritty, and then we’ll see it. But, above all, it presents many novelties, even at the time of purchase.
The XC40 Hybrid will be seen in the Italian dealerships in February (can be ordered ASAP), initially in the versions D4 AWD 190 CV (starting from 40,000 euro) and T5 petrol 247 CV. The price lists are already available and the entry level is set at 32,000 euros for the version D3 150 CV, which will arrive at the list before Christmas, along with the interesting D4 front-wheel drive. The real novelty, however, lies in the fact that you can “subscribe” to the car, initially for at least 24 months, paying a monthly cost of 699 euros for the versions D4 and T5. Without advance, the quota will guarantee full mobility, including assistance, maintenance, insurance, and stamp. It also includes the Mobility pack, which provides services for the collection and delivery of the car at home, in case of assistance. And this differentiates the subscription from the rental. In addition, it is already possible to have a package of 14 days of rental of other Volvo models throughout Italy, depending on your needs.
You share with friends. After the 24 months of subscription to the XC40 Hybrid, you can renew the contract or return the car, with times of use that could become more elastic and short, once the instrument will be developed further. And this, besides affecting a much younger and connected audience, has the advantage of ensuring the physical possession of the car always, with all the freedom it entails in terms of freedom of use. In addition, the Volvo on Call app and the Red key will allow you to share your machine with family and friends via codes. It is a first step, innovative, for now, limited to 2019 Volvo XC40. In addition to the subscription, however, you can obviously buy the SUV even in the most classic ways, including leasing.

Compact yes, but, To see it on the platform, the XC40 T5 R Design AWD does not seem much smaller than the XC60, perhaps also because it has a rather wide pitch. In fact, it is 4.43 m long, or 26 cm less than the elder sister. But above all it is different, it expresses a more decisive personality, thanks to a bonnet furrowed by ribs, which prove towards the large grille in glossy black. Particular the side (with the Swedish flag that peeps from the bottom of the bonnet): The trend of the upper part is almost convex, while it is concave in the lower part, accompanied by contrasting plastic guards. What customizes the body more, however, is the line of the belt to rise in correspondence of the portion of the rear glass. Apart from that then goes to connect with the high two-color portion of the presented specimen, which is white with a roof, spoiler (large) and black bars (but the XC40 you can have, of course, also monochrome). Classic Volvo tail lights, with the large tailgate (here motorized), inclined window and “fake” integrated exhausts, in the sense that the real ones are just behind. Large and well-exploitable, moreover, the trunk with hatch.

Space on board. In the cockpit stand out the finishes and precious materials (soft plastics diffused) of this flagship specimen. The instrumentation is digital and the multimedia system, beautiful and scenographic, is derived from the superior models. Particular the orange fabric covering on the door panels and in the floor/tunnel area. The steering wheel, with the paddle, is little inclined and of sporty Foggia, like the pedal. And containment is also the front seats, equipped with an extensible seat. The atmosphere is of high quality, as we used the Volvo on the higher floors of the range. Spacious the cockpit is also behind, where there is ample margin for the legs and you can count on the ventilation vents adjustable.
