Honda brings the insight back. As in the past, it comes as a hybrid, Called 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid, but otherwise quite different. Honda takes it as a normal sedan-not a bit of cranky.
The first one was a owl, the second was still unusual. Now the third Honda Insight follows, and it comes to normal. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS) Honda shows the latest full hybrid on offer and the next model with electric motor. Still a prototype, but there will not be much change until the series start in summer 2018. Until 2030, Honda wants to offer electrified two-thirds of the portfolio.
The insight was a pioneer. He came 1999 before the Toyota Prius to the United States market but never reached its success. Two doors, little space at just under 4 meters in length and his unusual streamlined bodywork made him a choice for, well, avant. The second insight, built up to 2013, adapted the body concept of the Prius II.
2019 Honda Insight Hybrid Engine Specs
The model for 2019 will be the first insight in the classic sedan look. Honda placed it between civic and accord. Under the hood is the hybrid system called I-MMD, which is also used in accord hybrid and in the coming CR-V hybrid for Europe. The concrete setup does not reveal Honda yet. In accord, Honda combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. One works as a generator, one as a sole or supporting drive. The approximately 215 PS system performance of the accord will probably not reach the smaller insight. A combination with a smaller 1.5-liter gasoline engine would be possible.
The 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid is intended to “get even further into the mainstream” for Honda electrified vehicles. But not in Europe. There are currently no plans to put him on the market here. That’s probably not going to change. In this country, the CR-V SUV is responsible for the popularization of the hybrid at Honda. Its premiere is planned for spring, the market launch takes place in the summer.
