In May 2018, the third generation of the 2019 KIA Ceed launches. We were already on the road with prototypes – and are quite impressed. First ride in the compact. Actually, Kias is more compact yet not so old. The second generation of Ceed has been on the market for almost six years. Another year would be loose in it, maybe even a little more. Nevertheless, his successor is now coming. And that will do Kia. Because the Ceed will not be modern at any price. He finds a great middle ground between the old school and the digital world.
2019 Kia Ceed Interior
This is especially noticeable in the cockpit. The infotainment screen slides far up in the new 2019 KIA Ceed. It is now in the driver’s sight. A second display sits between the round instruments. Around it: real switches and buttons, well sorted and not too many. The competition can be digital and touchscreen, but not necessarily better.
All versions of the Ceed get a dashboard with so-called “Slush” padding and double seams. Everything looks cleanly processed and tidy, the operation opens up by itself. Only the navigation is via the touchscreen display.
The assistance brings Kia up to date in the Ceed. The standard onboard are city emergency braking, lane keeping, a-beam assistant and fatigue monitor. For an additional fee there are pedestrian detection, blind-Warner, cross traffic-Warner at rear parking and a so-called lane follow assist. He follows the foreman in congestion, stop-and-go traffic and on the highway to Tempo 130.
2019 Kia Ceed Test Drive
The biggest leap in the Ceed is the drives. The compact gets two completely new engines: a 1.4-liter gasoline direct injection and a 1.6-liter diesel. Both were ready for a first exit. Still in disguised pre-series models, but this does not change the driving behavior. As the new 2019 KIA Ceed Design, Kia wants to show in the coming week.
We were particularly surprised by the diesel engine with its impressive running culture. It is so quiet that you want to classify it acoustically as gasoline. The self-igniter makes 136 PS and sends from 1,750 tours just under 300-newton meters into the 7-speed double clutch transmission. The entire drive combination is very harmoniously tuned, never pushing itself into the foreground. You drive relaxed and enjoy the good elasticity. In addition, Kia promises that the diesel will make the Ceed the most economical compact in the segment. According to NEDC, it should consume 2.9 liters per 100 km.
The suppleness of the drive is supported by a comfort-oriented, but not too soft, suspension tuning. Even rolling noises from the wheel can hardly be perceived. The steering responds directly and sensitively without bringing nervousness into the car. Everything together makes the Ceed a balanced, good everyday car.
However, most customers are likely to opt for the mid-sized petrol engine again. Right now, in the midst of the diesel discussion. The newly developed 1.4-liter T-GDI renders 140 HP, is agile to the gas, but at higher speeds it is noticeable. Like the diesel, it comes with a manual six-speed or double-clutch transmission.
This includes the 120 PS-strong three-cylinder turbo direct injection of the predecessor. As the cheapest entry-level model, Kia continues to have the 1.4-liter suction gasoline engine with 100 hp in the program. The new self-igniter is available as an alternative to 115 PS. If these engines are basically too limp, you have to wait until the fall of 2018. Kia then wants to push a 1.6-liter turbo with 204 hp.
2019 Kia Ceed Redesign & Dimensions
The dimensions of the Ceed hardly change to the model change. It continues to measure 4.31 meters in length. Also, the wheelbase remained the same with 2.65 meters. However, the passenger cell was pushed backward by 68 millimeters and at the same time made the Ceed 23 millimeters flatter. It certainly doesn’t hurt the proportions.
The Koreans will still not be a looker. A mainstream model that should meet as many tastes as possible. No one will point his finger at him and say: There goes the new Ceed. That’s what most compacts do.
2019 KIA Ceed Price and Release Date
The manufacturer does not yet mention prices. They should be slightly above those of the old Ceed. Currently, it starts at 14,990 Euro. In addition to the five-door hatchback, it is again called a “sports wagon”. It grows by eight centimeters to 4.60 meters in length, its trunk is supposed to hold 600 liters of cargo.
The door will be eliminated in the future. The emotional part of the series will take on a shooting brake version. This means that Kia goes the same way as the group’s sister brand Hyundai, which also offers such a body shape in the compact segment.
