Here is our comprehensive review of 2019 Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV G features, redesign, horsepower, engine specs, fuel economy, interior, price and release date
He has planned anyway. In the diesel debate, Mazda is now particularly pleased to have it: the Mazda CX-5 debuts a new gasoline engine with 194 horsepower and cylinder shutdown.
long he was announced, now he is there: the new top petrol for Europe is in the Mazda CX-5 to the top of the engine program. 194 PS is the 2.5-liter engine – a performance class that many competitors in the compact SUV segment prefer to save. Also on the price tag stands a proud sum: including four-wheel drive, a lot of equipment and six-speed automatic are due 37,790 euros.
The CX-5 is Mazda’s bestseller in Germany and Europe. Between 60,000 and 65,000 copies, the Japanese sell each year. The Japanese promise a lot from the new Top motor: in this country around one in four CX-5 is to be ordered with the engine. Lastly, Mazda revised the forecast upward by about five percent.
The reason: The diesel discussion mainly keeps private customers away from the diesel. As an alternative to the 175-PS-Diesel, you will now receive this 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 194 hp. The gasoline engine is priced at a similar level to a comparable self-igniter. However, there are differences in consumption. 7.2 Liters to 100 kilometers, Mazda announces, realistically, one and a half to two liters more.
In order to keep the thirst in check, Mazda has for the first time sold a cylinder shutdown to the engine already offered in the predecessor, which is intended to reduce consumption by up to 20 percent, especially for Konstantfahrt in urban traffic. From a diesel, the new gasoline also distinguishes the character during the ride. First, the extremely low noise level in the interior is noticeable: the 4-cylinder is so quiet that it is hardly registered when the start-stop system turns it off at the traffic light.
The pull-through force at low tours, however, does not only fall in comparison with Mazda’s own diesel engines. As the only major manufacturer in most gasoline engines, Mazda dispenses with turbocharging, allowing the high-density four cylinders to be freed instead. Power is therefore only available at higher speeds: the maximum 258 Newton meter torque is only available at 4,000 rpm.
The standard six-speed automatic compensates this circumstance quite well by turning it off late-especially in sports mode. However, the torque gap to the similarly expensive 175 PS Diesel (420 nm at 2,000 rpm) cannot compensate for this.
Interior and chassis
The bottom line, however, is not a serious problem. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV takes its momentum less from the drive power than from the successfully tuned chassis. On winding roads, the reluctant and hardly tottering Mazda is one of the best in its class. And without neglecting long-distance comfort, the compact SUV skillfully feathers unevenness and is a comfortable companion on longer tours.
The interior is also convincing: it looks elegant and less playful than with the smaller models of the brand, convincing with a pleasant choice of materials and good workmanship. The Mazda is still quite a new, brilliant head-up display, which projects the driving information directly into the windshield and not onto a tiny plastic display.
Those who choose this gasoline, however, will pay a high price. Mazda always offers the new four-cylinder with all-wheel drive and automatic, and only in the highest equipment level with LED light, navigation system and 19-inch rims. In the long run, that could change. If the diesel shyness of private customers persists, Mazda is likely to expand its Benzinerangebot. And then offer the top engine even in more favorable configurations.
