A new name for a new model: Skoda replaces Rapid 2019 with the Scala. The gap between Fabia and Octavia is big, loosely big enough for the new Czechs. The occurs formally in the compact class against VW Golf, Opel Astra or Renault Mégane, but is technically close to the small car of the VW Group.
The predecessor Rapid is characterized by simple technology and plenty of space for comparatively low price. That will change with the successor. Although Skoda sets the Scala brand-typical of practicality and space. However, it is over with simple technology from 2019.
Scala is the first Skoda based on the current MQB-A0 small car platform of the VW Group. Electrified drives are missing this kit. With assistance technology and infotainment, on the other hand, there is a lot going on. This makes the Scala the new benchmark in the Skoda range in these areas. 2019 Skoda Scala Interior & Features – MANY ASSISTANTS IN THE NEW SCALA
The Czechs irritate the kit in terms of dimensions. The long wheelbase of 2.65 meters, 10 centimeters more than the Polo, allows a spacious interior. The trunk holds 467 liters – a lavish value in the compact class. Only in the width of the Skoda Scala shows its descent from the small car. As an alternative to the standard tailgate, a flap with an extended rear window is available.
Nobody expected and did not get a really chic interior in Rapid. In Scala, Skoda now relies on a completely new operating concept with softer shapes and finer materials. Even an ambient lighting belongs to the program for an extra charge. Factual and simple, the cockpit still works.
In terms of features, the new Scala is amazingly much. Heated windshield, electric tailgate, LED headlamps, adaptive suspension, distance control up to 210 km / h, self-steering parking assistant, lane departure warning, high-beam assistant, front radar with emergency braking, online updates for sat nav maps – who pays for it, has to do almost nothing.
Skoda promises a high level of security even if not the complete assistant armada is on board. Dipped and daytime running lights illuminate as standard in LED technology, for a surcharge, there are full-LED headlights with LED high beam. Up to nine airbags are on board.
In addition, it should be quite digital in the new Scala. For a surcharge, the driver looks no longer on analog, but on animated pointers – which in the VW group something pretentious “virtual cockpit” means. In the Skoda Scala, the display measures 10.25 inches.
Like the next Golf, the new Skoda Scala is also permanently online. The built-in SIM card is used as standard for the eCall emergency call system. In the higher levels of infotainment, you can do much more with the data connection. Live services are thus just as possible as updates of the infotainment software or the Navi cards. In addition, new apps can be installed via a kind of app store.
There are also remote applications via mobile app. For example, the Skoda Scala can be located, opened and closed via the smartphone. If the car is stolen or the Filius drives faster than allowed, the Scala can inform its owner via push message.
2019 Skoda Scala Engine Specs
It will not be electric yet: In the A0 kit VW has not yet provided any hybrid components. Accordingly, Skoda Scala offers three gasoline, a diesel and a natural gas variant . The top unit is the well-known from other corporate models 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with cylinder deactivation (150 hp). All engines comply with the Euro 6d temp. Consumption and performance does not yet call the manufacturer.

2019 Skoda Scala Platform
Skoda provides only a few info about the sketch. Meanwhile, there is a name: The new compact model will be called Scala. And Skoda confirms that the successor to the Rapid is based on the modern platform MQB A0. The current model is still based on the old PQ kit.
Its new base shares the Skoda Scala with Seat Ibiza, VW Polo, and Audi A1. Originally the architecture was developed for small cars, but it can be scaled in length. There will be limitations in width. And: The MQB A0 does not allow for all that is common in the larger models.
An all-wheel-drive excludes the platform. Hybrid technology will not come either. But turbo gasoline engine with three and four cylinders. Presumably Skoda Generation donated two more power, currently, there is a maximum of 125 hp. The diesel Skoda will probably delete.
Depending on engine and equipment, we expect five or six-speed manual transmissions, optionally a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. 20-inch rims and bad aprons as in the study will not go into production, nor will an RS version.

But Skoda will significantly improve infotainment and assistants. The new compact gets many options that could not be implemented in the old platform. Possible would be, for example, a lane detector with steering intervention, an adaptive cruise control, and teilautonomes parking. What goes into the series depends on the positioning of the car.
The 2019 Skoda Scala gets bigger than the current Rapid. In length and space, he will beat the next golf. In width, it is more oriented to the small car. We expect the official premiere this year.
