2019 Subaru Impreza WRX Hatchback Specs, Price, Engine
Golf or Astra? The compact class offers alternatives. Like the 2019 Subaru Impreza: its 5th generation starts at the end of the year. Of course with all-wheel drive and boxer engine.
To us comes the new Impreza with some delay. Subaru is just a small manufacturer and cannot operate all markets around the globe at the same time. At the Tokyo Motor Show 2015 debuted a series-close study of the fifth Impreza, at the end of 2016, the sale started first in Japan and then in North America.
At the end of the year, generation number five, after its IAA premiere, also rolls out to the German dealers. The cars are built in Subaru’s US plant in Lafayette, Indiana. With a new architecture (Subaru Global Platform) and with a new body. Presumably only real fans will immediately recognize the main differences in the design, because the 2019 Subaru Impreza is very similar to its predecessor. Also the was quite jagged, with many beading, edges and corners.
In Japan the Subaru Impreza was already the “Car of the Year”, in the USA its cockpit was voted the ten best new releases. The quiet and reduced interior design of a golf or Kia are alien to the Subaru. Everywhere, the eye finds forwards and bounces, ledges and lines.
Cool is the small display on the dashboard. It shows the climate settings and an animation of the car. If, for example, the lighting is switched on, the car has small cones of light in front of the headlights. The new Impreza offers a lot of space inside. Passengers enjoy lush legroom on the rear seat. The entrance and exit is also easy, because the doors open above average.
Less Cleverness showed the developers in terms of variability. Sure, the back rests can be folded. However, it remains an unsightly step, so that larger objects cannot be pushed through as easily as in many combinations or SUV’s. The inner loading (height: 11 cm) is also somewhat disturbing. But the Impreza just doesn’t want to be a functional van, but a hot compact.
Of course: a boxer
As before, there is a four-cylinder boxer engine under the sheet. With the exception of Porsche, the rest of the world has no such thing to offer. 80 percent of all engine parts want to have Subaru’s engineers exchanged or revised. The result: the 2.0-liter engine became lighter and more economical, 156 hp and 196 Newton meters maximum torque.
Both values are not necessarily an expression of pronounced sportiness. Especially since the boxer is coupled to a stepless automatic, which is called Subaru Lineatronic. Because stay always felt some PS hanging somewhere in the oil bath. The boxer lacks the punch, even at the game speed. The Japanese love this relaxed driving feeling – with the dynamics of a double clutch transmission this automatic can inevitably not keep up.
When it comes to driving dynamics, the advantages of the symmetrical four-wheel drive are somewhat on the track due to the choice of gears. The same is true for the boxer-conditioned low centre of gravity, which Subaru has lowered again by five millimeters from the predecessor in the 2019 Subaru Impreza. Or for the standard torque-vectoring of the force distribution. There is nothing to remember in normal everyday life.
2019 Subaru Impreza Price; Quite Expensive
Modern assistance systems such as Spurhalteeassistent, distance control or automatic emergency brakes are drawn into the Impreza with the model change. Everything is integrated in the so-called EyeSight, which the Impreza has on board as standard. Just like LED headlights, seat heating, the 2-zone air conditioner and the large 8-inch display.
26,980 Euro is calling Subaru for the new A-lister Impreza. The exclusive equipment costs the compact 28,480 euro, as a sports version 31,680 euro. Not a little, because in this price segment there are great alternatives. A Golf GTI, for example. But he doesn’t have four-wheelers or boxers. A 2019 Subaru Impreza has just not everyone.
