Shortly after the sedan, Audi shows the 2020 Audi A6 Avant. Technically there are no surprises, but a flat stern and a lot of Interior space.
The Trunk compartment is the most important thing about the wagon. It must be large, variable and easily accessible. But don’t look like vans. That is why designers and engineers are arguing at this point. One wants the fine line, the other a lot of space.
The new Audi A6 shows the edge of the compromise. The stern of the avant, but especially the lateral parts on the way back show dynamic elements. The disc is flatter, the roof is visually more striking.
2020 Audi A6 Avant Dimensions
Nevertheless, it remains at 565 litres of trunk volume – just as much or little as the predecessor. With folded backs it is 1,680 liters. This is possible because the loading area becomes an inch wider, otherwise almost everything stays with the old one. Thus, the 2020 Audi A6 Avant remains the third largest combination in the trio of Audi BMW and Mercedes. The BMW 5 Series Touring packs 570 to 1,700 litres, the Mercedes E-Class T-model 640 to 1,820 litres.
A lot of luggage still fits in. The backrest of the rear seat can be folded in a ratio of 40:20:40 divided. Tailgate and cargo compartment cover open electrically as standard. A fixing pack for the luggage costs extra.
Pleasant: The roof of the wagon does not fall as much as the A6 sedan. In the rear there is such a noticeable increase in headroom. Large adults sit comfortably in the outer squares and without contact to the sky. The knee-free in the rear is generous in both body versions.
Interior & Features
In front of the B-pillar, the avant does not differ from the A6 sedan. It takes over the new operating system with many Touchflächen and few switches. As standard, Audi installs two touch screens in the center console. The lower controls the air conditioning and serves as an input area with handwriting recognition. The hand Bale is based on the shift lever. The display always measures 8.8 inches in the diagonal.
This is where the infotainment and navigation screen sits. A Navi is available as standard in the A6 avant. In the base it is displayed on a 8.1-inch display, at an additional cost on a 10.1-inch screen. The systems are online and draw the current traffic data from the Internet. If the connection is poor, the A6 navigates with the installed cards.
Audi installs comfortable seats and positions all important elements within easy reach. The switches are cleverly arranged and feel high quality. Small drawback: In the door pockets only bottles with one liter of content fit.
Compared to its predecessor, the A6 Avant is easy to set in size. It will be one centimeter longer and higher, plus two centimeters wider. It is visually oriented to the high-class limousines A7 and A8. LED headlights are available as standard, and matrix light is optional. Laser lamps sold Audi only half a class higher.
Engine Specs & Hybrid
The A6 avant continues to take over the drive range from the sedan. There are four-and six-cylinder engines at the start of the market. For the time being, three diesels and only one gasoline engine are on offer. The petrol engine meets the emissions standard Euro 6b at the start, from 1 September 2018 the new standard Euro 6d-temp. All diesels are already 6d to Euro-temp homo approved.
The six-cylinder engines receive a second electrical power supply with 48 volt voltage and a belt starter generator (RSG). It takes over the task of the alternator and replaces the starter in many situations. But it works faster and more comfortable. When sailing, Audi turns off the burners and starts them when the driver gets power. Thus the consumption is to fall by up to 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
The four-cylinder diesel gets a similar system, but without a second electrical wiring. This is where the RSG works with 12 volts. All engines are automatically fitted as standard. Depending on the performance, Audi uses an eight-speed Wandlerautomaten or a seven-gear dual-clutch gearbox. All-wheel drive is available from six cylinders as standard. Four cylinders drive normally with front wheel drive.

Audi A6 Avant: Price
Audi does not yet mention the prices for the A6 avant. However, the limousine can already be configured. With 286 diesel-PS It costs at least 58,050 euro. The petrol engine (340 hp) stands at 59,850 euro in the price list. In the old model, the surcharge for the Kombiheck was 2,500 euro. Presumably it will remain with this difference.
Up to now, a diesel A6 with 272 ps 2,500 euros was less than its successor with 286 HP. The new is cheaper, however: the navigation system (up to now from 2,380 Euro) and LED lamps (previously 1,470 euro) are available as standard. The surcharge to the large Navi, however, increases to 2,200 euros. So far it was 1,000 euros.
