2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid Specs, Release Date & Price
Much has Ford not changed in the new 2020 Ford Mustang, luckily. But the things that are new make the US sports car better and more technically interesting.
The Ford Mustang did not really do much for the new model year. Nevertheless, the changes make a whole sense – even if you don’t see them right away. And despite the renewed price increase, he remains a bargain. Visually, the 2018 model differs from its predecessor only by standard LED headlights, new fenders, a bonnet with air vents, new 19-inch wheels and a modified rear.
The diffuser now looks massive, with the V8 version 2020 Ford Mustang GT, the exhaust gas flows through four tailpipes instead of two. Optionally, Ford mounted a wide rear spoiler. With the V8, an enlarged front splitter ensures more contact pressure, new panels in the anterior wheel arches minimize air turbulence and thus save fuel.
It gets more interesting under the hood. The charged 2.3-liter four-cylinder now provides 290 instead of the former 317 hp. For this, the torque increases from 432 to 440 Nm Torque. Why? Ford is now setting up an Otto particulate filter that produces more counter-pressure and therefore swallows power. There was no space for a larger filter in the Mustang. Thus the Mustang meets the emissions standard 6d-temp.
The difference is hardly noticeable when driving. With around 4,300 tours, the performance will be depending on a few seconds. Does not bother: those who briefly speed up and switch quickly will get almost nothing from the hole because the counter-pressure builds up slowly. For a four cylinder, the engine drives powerful and brawny. As before, the “little” Mustang is convincing until the V8 is driving.
2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid Engine
The Mustang GT with 5.0-liter eight-cylinder gasoline engine is getting stronger, performance rises from 421 to 450 horsepower. In this case, a high-pressure gasoline direct injection with a low central injection is now using 16 instead of 8 injection nozzles for fast fuel flow. The brawny engine provides 4,600 tours its torque of 529 Newton-meters and turns loose to 7,500 tours – 500 tours more than before.
In the lower speed range, the motor bubbles quietly and even at full throttle slowly moves to higher speeds. From 4,500 tours the V8 gets a bite and turns toxic to the red area. Then it pops out of the exhaust as if you were on the racetrack. It is downright addictive to chase the V8 in the third gear over the entire speed band.
New Automatic transmission
For the new model, Herzog expects a higher proportion of automatic customers, because this is where Ford is most deeply involved in the powertrain. As standard, the Mustang is powered by a manual six-speed transmission. This works quickly and directly with very short switching paths – super. With the new two-disc clutch and a two-disc flywheel, it should be more durable than the predecessor and allows even faster gear changes. When switching off, short blipping shocks ensure a better speed approximation, cars from June will be able to do so automatically.
The most exciting innovation in the 2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid is the new ten-speed transmission. We presented it in detail a few days ago. For 2,500 euro surcharge, The machine not only takes over the switching work, it also makes the Mustang faster. From 0 to 100 km/h will be in 4.3 seconds. With the charged four-cylinder we would rather choose the manual gearbox, but a real ami-V8 is automatic. A good one.
The Ford engineers have also substantially optimized the chassis of the 2018 Mustang. New dampers, larger lateral stabilizers and the faster MagneRide damper system from the GT350 (2,000 euros) significantly improve the driving behavior of the strong American. With these modifications the Mustang Springs directly and sporty and hardly swims. Only the rear axle starts to stamp easily on short waves and fast driving.
The adaptive chassis adapts to the road conditions more quickly than previously. The drag and my mode modes complement the already known modes normal, sport, race track and rain/snow. The “drag” function, as the name says, is made for quarter-mile races. The flash start mode also makes the traffic light start to the show. The Rev counter then moves as a bar at the top of the cockpit, in the “My Mode” the program can be configured individually. New is also the front collision detector with pedestrian detection as well as the adaptive cruise control with distance warning
2020 Ford Mustang Interior
In the interior, the Mustang remains true to itself: it does not seem really noble. After all: The topspin model receives softer surfaces on dashboard and door panels. The instrument surrounds can be ordered in four aluminum surfaces. This feels high-quality, as is the thick and gripping steering wheel with standard heating.
The new 12-inch LCD instrument carrier also looks great and displays its information sharply and clearly. Seven colors and different illustrations can be set. The infotainment with 8-inch monitor Controls radio, Navi (1,200 euro) and climate. It is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android car – but unfortunately, it is slow and inaccurate.
The seams in contrast color at the center console do not convince. They look too wide, and: some are not sewn, but printed. The hard plastic on the A-pillar also works cheaply, as are some switches and buttons. It is also incomprehensible that the button for the operating modes can only be operated upwards. So you always have to switch all six levels.
The faintly pulsating Start button looks a little silly. After the door has been unlocked, it vibrates 30 times per minute – according to Ford, the heartbeat frequency of a pony is emulated. Also, the animation in the style of a video game while pressing the parking brake for the catapult start reminds more of David Hasselhoff than to Steve McQueen. The Mustang doesn’t need that.
2020 Ford Mustang Release Date and Price
How to turn it and apply it: the Ford Mustang remains a bargain when it comes to sporty coupes with neat character and oomph. It costs as a Mustang with a charged four cylinder 39,000 euro, for the Mustang GT with V8 demanded 46,000 euro. The convertibles cost 4,500 euros each. The only serious competitor Chevrolet Camaro costs with 6.2-liter V8 and 453 hp 47,400 euros.
As an option, Ford offers a carbon sports package (1,600 euros), with carbon apertures to mount the instrument carrier and the shift knob. To this comes Alcantara on the door panels and on the seats. This is worth considering: as standard, the Mustang seats in leather look. They’re actually called that, and they look like that.
If you drive a 2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid, you’ll fall-but you can still be a good neighbor. For this, he chooses the good-neighborhood mode. Then an active valve in the standard flap exhaust in the V8 controls the sound down so far that only a low whisper is left. A boon for peacefully sleeping, neighbors.
