2020 RANGE ROVER EVOQUE: PICTURES, PRICE, ENGINE – Land Rovers SUV hipster is modern: The second generation of the Evoque drives partially electric and lets the driver look through the hood. All information about the compact SUV.
You have to look very closely to distinguish the 2020 Range Rover Evoque from the previous model. The lamps become flatter, the aprons get worse, the body smoother. Proportions, dimensions and the basic shape hardly change. The Evoque remains the compact SUV, whose windows are flattening towards the rear.
More optical refreshing is not necessary, finds Land Rover. The first Evoque sells splendidly, his successor should hook seamlessly. He looks a bit more modern and should drive much more modern: mild hybrid is there to start, plug-in hybrid long term. In addition, the manufacturer finally implements a study from 2014: The Evoque can be seen through the hood.
2020 Range Rover Evoque Redesign
The idea of a virtual transparent hood (“Clear Sight”) showed Land Rover more than four years ago in the study Discovery Vision Concept. At that time, a head-up display projected images on the windshield, which were taken by cameras under the car. The sheet looked transparent, the driver could look to the wheels.
The Discovery did not get the technique yet. It now debuts in the Evoque but in a reduced form. The full-surface HUD does not make it into the car. The infotainment screen shows what happens under the Evoque. So it should better roll past sharp stones. Those who prefer to drive on the street, see more when parking.
Rear Evoque drivers should also see more in the future. Land Rover screws a waterproof and dirt-proof camera to the edge of the roof. Your image can be faded in the rearview mirror and show a wide range. A similar technique already offers Cadillac in some models. Getting used to, because the eye takes longer to focus – but practically when maneuvering.
Much of the new Evoque comes from the larger Velar. The compact SUV takes over, for example, the elaborate door handles that nestle closely to the body and extend electrically when you unlock the car. And the noble, optional fabrics on seats and trim parts.
In addition, Land Rover designed the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque cockpit as the Velar. It includes two touch screens: one for sat nav, radio, and apps, the second for vehicle functions such as air conditioning and driving programs. Depending on the surface, two mechanical rotary knobs change their function and change the temperature or terrain settings.
The speedometer takes over the Evoque also from the Velar. A large screen displays animated circular instruments, in between the car in profile, at the bottom of a small onboard computer. Many functions can be controlled on the steering wheel with a combination of touches and real buttons.
2020 Range Rover Evoque Dimensions
Land Rover promises: The 2020 Range Rover Evoque grows inside without becoming bigger outside. Responsible is the new construction kit for vehicles with the transverse engine (“Premium Transverse Architecture”, PTA). He was very stiff and allowed a good two inches more wheelbase. More space is available in the back seat and in the boot (591-1.383 l).
A large storage compartment in the center armrest holds handbags, tablets, and bottles. In addition, the invitation hatch becomes wider. In short: the Evoque becomes more practical and comfortable. Generation one was not one of the biggest ones, especially in the rear half of the car – the price for a fleet roofline.
In the future, the Evoque remembers the preferences of its drivers. It orients itself by car key or smartphone and adjusts temperature, music, hands-free system and seats to the right passenger. If the corresponding extra is on board, the driver’s seat massages with the most frequently set program.
2020 Range Rover Evoque Engine Specs – 4 Cylinder WIth Hybrid
Under the hood of the Evoque initially, work exclusively turbocharged four-cylinder. The gasoline and diesel with two liters of displacement afford 150 to 300 hp. In the base drives a 150-hp diesel via a manual six-speed gearbox to the front axle. All other variants get a Neungang torque converter and four-wheel drive. Here are all drives at a glance:
- Range Rover Evoque Td4 FWD: 150 hp (110 kW), 380 Nm, manual transmission, front-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Td4 AWD: 150 hp (110 kW), 380 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Td4 AWD: 180 hp (132 kW), 430 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Sd4 AWD: 240 hp (177 kW), 500 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Si4 AWD: 200 hp (147 kW), 340 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Si4 AWD: 250 hp (184 kW), 365 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
- Range Rover Evoque Si4 AWD: 300 hp (221 kW), 400 Nm, automatic, all-wheel drive
Apart from the base, all burners get a belt starter generator (RSG) and a 48-Volt electrical system. The RSG stores energy more efficiently when braking than a normal alternator and can assist the combustor when starting. Below 17 km / h, the engines shut down when the driver brakes.
In the long term, a plug-in hybrid will follow. Land Rover couples a 200 hp three-cylinder gasoline engine to the front axle with an electric motor (80 kW) on the rear axle. A battery pack with 11.3 kWh capacity sits under the back seat, the charging module directly in front. The plug-in Evoque is scheduled to start in a year. A three-cylinder without electric motor provides the long-term gasoline base, expected to 150 hp.
2020 Range Rover Evoque SUV features
On off-road competence, Land Rover is also in the compact class. Therefore, the maximum fording depth of the Evoque increases from 50 to 60 centimeters, the ground clearance is still at a good 21 centimeters. Both slope angles increase (25 ° at the front, 30.6 ° at the rear). Due to the longer wheelbase, however, the ramp angle drops from 22 ° to 21.7 °. The trailer load in the base rises to 1.6 tonnes. The larger diesel pulls 2.0 tons, the petrol engine 1.8 tons.
Assistants keep the speed off-road, help with downhill driving and control how quickly the brake releases on the slope. An adaptive suspension adjusts the damper control. In quiet terrain (or on the road), the rear wheels break and save fuel.
A new rear axle and bearings as well as hydraulic bearings on the front axle to improve driving characteristics and ride comfort of the Evoque. For the optics, Land Rover offers rims up to 21 inches in diameter.
The Evoque is available now. In the base, it costs 37,350 euros. Compared to its predecessor, this means an extra charge of 1,420 euros. Equipment adjusted, the gap could still fall.
