2020 Seat Tarraco – All You Need to know about New Seat 7 Seater SUV

Monday, February 11th, 2019 - Seat

The big Seat SUV looks familiar: The 2020 Seat Tarraco shares platform and size with 2020 VW Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq.

The very fat thing is missing so far at Seat. Sure, there is the Van Alhambra. But customers now prefer high seats rather than small buses. The seat has two SUVs currently in the program. Above the small Arona and the compact Ateca starts at the end of 2018 the great Tarraco.

The tip in Seat’s SUV program is huge in comparison. The Tarraco measures 4.73 meters in length and can fit up to seven people. With him start new assistants and a large infotainment system. But the car is not that new.

2020 Seat Tarraco  Platform

The seat takes over many parts from the brand sisters. The Tarraco gets the architecture of VW Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq. The VW also provides the structure. Who looks exactly, who could discover one or the other identical sheet metal part. Accordingly, their dimensions hardly differ: the SUVs drive with an almost identical wheelbase and almost the same length.

Nevertheless, should be for the Tarraco place in the market. The need for large SUVs is growing steadily, Seat recalls. You also want to position the Tarraco differently than his brothers, with their own design and a little more pepper in the vote.

2020 Seat Tarraco Price & Availability

On 18 September the Spaniards show their big SUV without camouflage. Then we see how many own lines they press into the sheet and what they take over from Wolfsburg. Camouflaged prototypes betray already during the acceptance test: front and rear become independent, in between, there are well-known lines.

2020 Seat Tarraco Interior Space & Volume

The most important feature of his brothers takes the Tarraco in any case: He is a big family car. His trunk invites 700 (7-seater, folded back at the back) to 760 liters (5-seater). Lie back all seats flat, fit up to 1,920 liters in the SUV. In row two, it sits comfortably, at the very back it reaches for children or small adults.

In the cockpit, Seat strives for independence. The dashboard gets its own shapes and the edges typical for Seat. A digital cockpit comes optionally in the car, as well as a navigation system with a large touchscreen. Pleasant: The screen sits above the air vents, directly to the right of the speedometer. So that it lies in the field of vision of the driver. However, this suffers from the usability.

The seat uses foamed plastics above the trim parts, which makes it hard. In the center console, the climate control of the Tiguan continues to be used. We can not publish photos – Seat shows the cockpit only at the premiere.

Engine Specs & Trims

To start the Spaniards build four engines in two performance classes in the 2020 Seat Tarraco. Two gasoline engines with 1.5 and 2.0 liters displacement and two types of diesel each with 2.0 liters of displacement afford 150 and 190 hp. A dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel drive are available as an option in the base, as the standard for the large engines. Here are the preliminary technical data, as far as known:

Seat Tarraco 1.5 TSI 2.0 TSI 2.0 TDI 2.0 TDI
power 150 hp (110 kW) 190 hp (140 kW) 150 hp (110 kW) 190 hp (140 kW)
torque 250 Nm 320 Nm 340 Nm 400 Nm
top speed 201 km / h 211 km / h 200 km / h 213 km / h
0 – 100 km / h 9.7 s 8.0 s 9.8 s 8.0 s
mass 1,587 kg 1,773 kg 1,687 kg 1,816 kg

We drove the Tarraco in the base engines. For most applications, the small gasoline engine should be enough: He runs quietly, withstands consumption and can easily get around in the city with the big SUV. If necessary, he even manages to set the pace to 200.

However, you should not expect a lot of temperament. If gradients come into play, you can clearly feel the 1.6 tonnes of the SUV. The electronics then recommends a low gear quickly, below 2,000 tours, little power comes to the axle. High speeds go to the consumption.

For hilly areas or full load, the stronger power level is recommended. The big diesel has noticeably less trouble with the Tarraco when it gets uncomfortable. It can be easily moved on the torque plateau, without attracting attention by the noise.

In combination with four-wheel drive, the diesel engine is even very decent in the area. Mechanically reach up to 50 percent of the moment to the rear axle. Through brake intervention, Seat regulates further percentages backward or specifically to wheels with grip. A Rubicon Kraxler does not become him, but a keen climber.

The most comfortable Tarraco still feels on the street. His chassis makes Seat neutral and good-natured. If you take the curves with too much vigor, you can feel the high center of gravity – and hear the wheels on the front axle whimper softly. In addition, the SUV steers pleasantly precise and direct. In the sporty driving mode, a pleasant counterweight is added.

In the Tarraco, Seat offers all the assistance available for the brand. Added to this are pedestrian and cyclist recognition (“Front Assist”), a system that prepares the car and passengers for an imminent accident, and a supervisor assistant.

2020 Seat Tarraco Release Date and Price

Exact details on price and features will be available for the premiere in September 2018. We assume that a basic Tarraco with a 150-horsepower gasoline engine will cost around € 30,000. First cars should arrive at the end of the year at the dealer.
