The dual-engine Full Hybrid Electric engine of the fourth generation makes its debut on the 2020 Toyota Corolla. The new Corolla is the first Toyota model to offer the choice between two Full Hybrid Electric engines: a 122 bhp 1.8L and the new 180 bhp 2.0L, available for the Hatchback and Touring Sports variants
Toyota Corolla, the best-selling car in the world ever with over 46 million units from 1966 to date, is completely renewed and returns in a peremptory way in the C segment. Now in its twelfth generation, Corolla reiterates this historic name that replaces the Auris, a car that introduced hybrid technology in the C segment in 2010.
The platform on which the 2020 Toyota Corolla is built is the TNGA-C (Toyota New Global Architecture), designed to combine great driving pleasure with reduced operating costs, guaranteed by Toyota’s Full Hybrid Electric technology. The four pillars of the great return of Corolla are based on a car product that can guarantee rationality, quality, durability and authority.
2020 Toyota Corolla Specs
The 2020 Toyota Corolla is the first Toyota model to offer the choice between two Full Hybrid Electric engines: a 122 hp 1.8L and the new 180 bhp 2.0L, both available on Hatchback and Touring Sports versions. With over 23 years of experience in the marketing and development of hybrid models, Toyota is a leader in this sector that represents not only the future, but also a flourishing present that always responds better to customer needs. About warranty: the Hybrid Service program that provides an additional warranty for the Full Hybrid Electric cars up to 10 years on both the electrical and mechanical parts not subject to wear, performing routine maintenance at the official network.
The fourth generation 1.8-liter hybrid engine develops a total of 90 kW / 122 horsepower, thanks also to the 53 kW produced by the electric motor. A further refined engine, from the silent gear. As for the 2.0-liter Hybrid Dynamic Force, we emphasize that it reaches 132 kW/180 hp of power and ensures better performance with more power, for a truly engaging driving experience. Consumption and CO2 emissions are respectively from 30.3 km / h and 76 g / km for the 1.8L version, while for the 2.0L version starting from 27 km/h and 84 g / km of CO2 (data NEDC related in the combined cycle).
4th Generation Toyota Hybrid
The fourth generation hybrid system consists of a smaller and lighter transmission with an innovative dual-axis design for the engine and generator, designed to reduce space requirements, to obtain a low-loss gear train and allow an increase in the speed of rotation of the motor. Thanks to the TNGA-C platform, the 2020 Toyota Corolla is lower and wider than before: the sporty appearance does not affect the interior space, the top of the category for the Touring Sports version. Compared to the Auris, the wheelbase is longer than 100mm. The interior space now reaches the 928 mm of space between the seat of the front seat and rear, with the trunk instead boasting a capacity of almost 600 liters.
The new Corolla comes standard – for all versions – of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which now includes updated versions of different systems, including:
- Pre-Collision (PCS)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Lane Warning Warning (LDA)
- Road Signs Recognition (RSA)
- Automatic Highbeam (AHB)
The package also introduces the new Adaptive Full Range Cruise Control systems with Stop & Go and Active Lane Keeping (LTA), for unprecedented driving support.
The new Corolla also features the blind spot detector (BSM) system with parking assistance (RCTA), Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS), Drive-Start Control (DSC) and a complete range of traction control and braking system.
