Barely half a year before the market launch, Mercedes is showing the estate version of the four-door A-Class Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show (March 7 – 17). The 2020 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake has grown compared to the first version built since 2015 by almost five centimeters to 4.68 meters. Also in the width, he puts on about five centimeters and now measures 1.83 meters without mirrors. The slight increase in length goes hand in hand with a two-centimeter-low overall height, which achieves a slightly more dynamic overall line. Also wheelbase (2.72 m+3 cm) and track increase. In everyday use more conspicuous, however, should be the much wider load compartment opening. It now measures 87 inches instead of 64 inches and should facilitate loading with a bit more bulky luggage.
Apart from the design changes, the 2020 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake differs from its predecessor primarily by the possibilities of networking. As in the A-Class is MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) on board and “determines the experience in the interior” as the Mercedes description. In fact, since its debut in the A-Class a year ago, the connectivity and operating system has been successively developed further and is being used in all new Daimler models. And because development in the digital domain is much faster than in classic automotive engineering, each new generation of MBUX comes with new capabilities. In the CLA, for example, it is already able to differentiate between the spoken commands of the driver and the front passenger and, if necessary, also reacts to hand signals.
2020 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake Price
The strongest engine for the Shooting Brake is a two-liter turbo gasoline engine with 165 kW/225 hp, which drives the front wheels by means of a seven-speed DSG gearbox and consumes an average of 6.5 liters. Until the market launch in September, however, other engines from the portfolio of the A-Class should be available. As expected, Daimler is not yet pricing. The Shooting Brake based on the old A-Class is currently available from $35,094, the new CLA can order from $36,580. The Shooting Brake should be a bit more expensive.
