M stands for more in the new M2: more power, more dynamism, and more name. The 2020 BMW M2 Competition replaces the M2 coupé and gets the engine from the M4-minus a pair of Horsepower

Take a motor as powerful as possible and stuff it into a small car. If you do it right, it’s a lot of fun if you do it wrong, a hard-driving projectile. You can be confident with BMW. Already, the M2 was a fun gadget, which was easily persuaded to hang out the stern. The new M2 competition is expected to go even further.

BMW Screws the 3.0-liter series sixes with the internal code “S55B30” in the strongest 2. Instead of one, like the previous M2 engine “N55B30”, it is breathed by two turbochargers. Instead of 370, it makes 410 Hp. This leaves some distance to the Big brothers M3 and M4, which are driven by the same basic engine. At least 431 hp is there, maximum is 500 Hp. At torque, the M2 does not stand after the large MS, 550-Newton meters lie.

2020 BMW M2 Competition 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds

The power is transferred to the rear wheels in a classic style. In the best case, 4.2 seconds to tempo 100, as standard, is regulated at 250 km/h, with the optional m driver’s package at 280 km/h. The 2020 BMW M2 Competition thus surpasses the M2 slightly. He managed at best in 4.3 seconds at Tempo 100 and was allowed to drive a maximum of 270 km/h fast. Little downside: The M2 competition is a bit of a thing. It weighs at least 1,625 kilos including the driver, which is 55 kilos more than before.

In addition to the more elaborate engine, oil supply and cooling are also responsible for this. It takes over the M2 competition from the M4 with competition package. This is to bring advantages, especially on the racetrack. The BMW kidney has been enlarged, the front apron also allows more air.

2020 BMW M2 Competition Acceleration

For purists, BMW offers the M2 competition with the six-hand transmission. With this, the M2 automatically blipping and lowers the speed when switching off. However, only as long as the anti-skid DSC is active. If you disable it, you have to provide good connections. The M2 is optionally powered by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

For more dynamics on the racetrack, BMW is revising the chassis and steering. The front car stiffens an additional carbon strut that comes from the M4. Just like the strut brace from CFRP. As a basis for front and rear axles, BMW also uses the components from M3 and M4. In order to accommodate the stiffer front car, the power steering was adjusted.

On the rear axle, BMW has had the active m differential with up to 100 percent blocking effect. The coordination of stability control is completely new. BMW promises an even more sensitive control of the DSC and thus more traction especially when wet.

The DSC responds conservatively or candidly depending on the chosen mode. In Sport +, the so-called “M Dynamic Mode” (MDM) is activated, which allows a lot of slippage on the rear axle for small, controlled drifts. MDM can also be selected separately, the DSC is completely deactivated. With the two M-buttons on the steering wheel, the various settings for the motor, steering and switching strategy of the DKG can be combined and retrieved with one push of a button.

There is little change in the interior. The M1 and M2 buttons are new and red on the steering wheel, the Start button has also been painted red. In the center console, BMW offers direct-dial buttons for the mode settings of the motor, steering, and DSC.

In the competition, BMW optionally offers a new seat with a lit m2 logo in the backrest. The seams on the seats or on the control bag and dashboard are optionally made in blue or orange. As a functional extra, there are brakes with a larger diameter (400 instead of 380 mm front, 380 instead of 370 mm in the back) and six instead of four pistons at the front, and four instead of two pistons. The sports brake is in unobtrusive grey instead of standard blue.

2020 BMW M2 Competition Price & Release Date

BMW does not yet reveal the price of the M2 competition. Currently, the M2 coupé costs 59,900 euro. The M2 competition will cost more, but we do not expect an outrageous price increase. Finally, the customer is taken to the smaller alternative with the introduction of the market. The M2 competition replaces the previous M2 coupé. In September, the first models were to arrive at the customers.
