2019 Ssangyong XLV: Price, Specs, AWD Review – Compact Tivoli SUV
The 2019 Ssangyong XLV to be an alternative to compact SUVs. He offers more space – but only in the trunk. On the way in the small, larger Koreans.
It is not necessarily the big school of vehicle extension. What Ssangyong does with the small SUV Tivoli, does not help with the wheelbase, there is no more space in the back seat. The Tivoli grows as XLV, although by 24 centimeters to 4.44 meters, but the Koreans simply pimp the extra behind. The savings solution for more length, so to speak.
Unlike in the compact class or above (VW Tiguan Allspace, Hyundai Santa Fe), the drawbar in the small SUV is not necessarily standard treatment. An outsider had to come first to close the niche.
Aesthetically, the operation works only conditionally. As I said: the full 24 inches hide completely at the rear. And not very good. While the Koreans from the front quite original and almost pleasing in the three-quarter profile, he tears the good impression with the butt again right away.
2019 Ssangyong XLV Price
But Ssangyong requires only about 17,000 euros for the 2019 Ssangyong XLV, many small SUV models are more expensive. And there is equipment on board, which often costs extra in the “price-sensitive” B segment. Six airbags, for example, air conditioning and radio. There are also heated mirrors and cruise control for the base price.
Also standard: A 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 128 hp. If you prefer diesel, pay 19,500 euros. Four-wheel Ssangyong can pay in both cases. 4.000 Euro costs the extra on off-road expertise in gasoline, the diesel only half. All in all, the 2019 Ssangyong XLV still remains cheaper (or at least hardly more expensive) than other SUVs of the B segment, which usually offer significantly less space.
Ssangyong obviously makes an effort not to let the interior look too much for abandonment. When boarding light rings in the instrument panel welcome the driver with changing colors. When you park out, you are pleased that a small screen displays the current steering angle of the wheels. In summer you can enjoy the optionally offered seat cooling, which is otherwise only available in high-priced models. Workmanship and ergonomics are also decent.
2019 Ssangyong XLV Interior & Dimensions
The space for driver and front passenger is good, the rear is a bit closer. Since the length plus only the boot comes to good, the knee room in the rear remains on the mini-SUV level. Compact SUVs can do that better, of course. The boot, on the other hand, absorbs a lush 720 liters when the cargo floor is removed, and even 1,440 liters when the seats are folded down. Much more does not fit into the mature competitors.
With them, you are usually a bit more relaxed because they make less noise. In the tested diesel variant with all-wheel drive, the noise level is generally quite high. Ironically, in the much-used range between 100 and 120 km / h, a sonorous hum was added, which suggests weaknesses in the noise insulation of the bodywork. For the highway, the Ssangyong is not optimal. Here is the 115 hp four-cylinder diesel with an average consumption of 6.5 liters quite frugal, the solid suspension balanced. The steering is pleasantly smooth and sufficiently precise.
In the sum of all its features, however, the Ssangyong XLV has a hard time prevailing against the more mature and chic competition in the compact SUV format. The price advantage in the purchase should also be consumed by the higher loss of value. The main pound of the Korean remains so far the four-wheel drive, which gives it a relatively low entry price. Some of the competitors do not even offer it in their small SUVs
